Claude Design Skills Compared: Frontend Design, Impeccable and Taste Skill

Compare Frontend Design, Impeccable, and Taste Skill for Claude Code by design direction, review workflow, use case, and project stage.

If you can install only one design skill for Claude Code, should it be Frontend Design, Impeccable, or Taste Skill? The answer depends on what the project lacks: a visual direction, an actionable review process, or strong constraints against generic output.

All three improve AI frontend quality, but they are not interchangeable. Frontend Design emphasizes creating a subject-specific page. Impeccable turns critique and refinement into commands. Taste Skill changes overall generation tendencies and provides several specialized workflows.

Frontend Design: give the page a point of view

Frontend Design starts with the real subject. Claude identifies the product, user, and page objective, then plans color, typography, layout, and a signature element. Before coding, it checks whether those choices are merely familiar AI defaults.

Choose it when you are building a new page and the primary risk is visual interchangeability.

Use the Frontend Design Skill to plan this exhibition page.
Derive the visual language from the work, audience, and venue before implementation.
Do not use a generic SaaS card structure.

Impeccable: turn problems into operations

Impeccable records product context and provides commands such as critique, audit, polish, typeset, layout, animate, and harden. It lets Claude address one class of problem without receiving permission to redesign everything.

Choose it when an interface exists and the primary need is diagnosis, prioritization, controlled fixes, and release verification.

Evaluate only information hierarchy, plan comparison, and CTA clarity.
Report the three highest-priority issues before changing code.

Taste Skill: change the default output

Taste Skill treats generic AI design as a system problem. Its current default skill infers a design language and controls dimensions such as variation, motion, and density. The repository also includes GPT/Codex, redesign, image-to-code, and visual-style skills.

Choose it when Claude repeatedly uses the same gradients, cards, fonts, and hero structure, or when it frequently delivers placeholder-heavy interfaces.

Use design-taste-frontend to reshape the homepage.
Preserve content and routes. Identify generic patterns before proposing a direction.
Run the full preflight after implementation and report unresolved issues.

Choose by project type

Brand landing page or portfolio

Start with Frontend Design. After implementation, use Impeccable Audit to check responsive behavior, keyboard access, and technical quality.

SaaS dashboard or settings page

Start with Impeccable. Product interfaces usually benefit more from hierarchy, state coverage, density, and consistency than from giving each page a new visual identity.

A generic legacy marketing site

Use Impeccable Critique to identify the actual problems. If the root issue is the overall direction, bring in Taste Skill. Return to Impeccable for final verification.

Exploring several directions

Use Frontend Design or Taste Skill to generate a small number of meaningfully different approaches, not superficial color variations. Once one is selected, record it in DESIGN.md so later pages do not drift.

How to validate the choice

Test all candidates on the same real component, such as a pricing page or settings form. Save the no-skill baseline and compare:

  • understanding of the page objective;
  • reduction of unjustified default patterns;
  • respect for existing tokens and components;
  • responsive, accessibility, and edge-state coverage;
  • maintainability and explainability of changes.

Do not judge only by first-impression drama. A skill that produces a striking screenshot while breaking product behavior or maintainability has not improved the design.

Final recommendation

If you can choose only one: use Frontend Design for a new page, Impeccable for an existing product, and Taste Skill for recurring generic output.

If you can combine them: let Frontend Design or Taste Skill own direction, and let Impeccable own review and release quality. At every stage, the product brief, brand assets, and established design system should remain the highest authority.
