Best Claude Design Skills for UI, UX and Frontend Development
Compare Frontend Design, Impeccable, Taste Skill, UI UX Pro Max, and Emil Kowalski Skills for Claude Code UI and frontend work.
Claude Code can implement interfaces quickly, but implementation speed is not the same as reliable design judgment. A Claude design skill adds a reusable method between the request and the code: inspect the project, make visual or UX decisions, implement within constraints, and verify the result.
No single skill is best for every task. The right choice depends on whether you are creating a direction, reviewing an existing product, reducing generic output, searching structured design knowledge, or refining motion.
Quick recommendations
| Task | Recommended skill | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Create a distinctive page from scratch | Frontend Design | Strong subject, typography, color, and layout direction |
| Review and polish an existing interface | Impeccable | Separate commands for critique, audit, and polish |
| Reduce generic AI design patterns | Taste Skill | Anti-patterns, visual controls, and preflight checks |
| Generate structured UI/UX recommendations | UI UX Pro Max | Broad industry, style, type, color, and stack knowledge |
| Improve motion and design-engineering details | Emil Kowalski Skills | Focused animation and interface-decision workflows |
1. Frontend Design: best for a new direction
Frontend Design comes from Anthropic’s public Skills repository. It asks Claude to identify the subject, audience, and page purpose before choosing colors, type, layout, and a signature element. It then critiques the plan for generic defaults before implementation.
Best for brand sites, portfolios, campaign pages, and major visual redesigns. It is less useful for a narrow accessibility scan or a small spacing fix inside a mature design system.
2. Impeccable: best for critique and delivery
Impeccable provides commands for product initialization, shaping, critique, audit, typography, layout, motion, hardening, and final polish.
It is a strong choice for existing products, design debt, release preparation, and incremental redesign. Scope each command carefully: asking for a critique of the pricing page is safer than asking the agent to improve the entire app in one pass.
3. Taste Skill: best for reducing template output
Taste Skill positions itself as an anti-slop frontend framework. Its current default install name is design-taste-frontend. The repository also includes a stricter GPT/Codex-oriented variant, redesign workflows, image-to-code, and visual-direction skills.
Use it when Claude repeatedly generates the same cards, gradients, icon blocks, and hero structures regardless of the product.
4. UI UX Pro Max: best for broad design intelligence
UI UX Pro Max organizes styles, product categories, palettes, font pairings, chart types, UX guidance, and stack-specific recommendations into searchable design knowledge.
It is useful for MVPs, dashboards, multi-platform products, and teams without an established design system. Its breadth is also its risk: many available options do not guarantee the right option for a specific brand.
5. Emil Kowalski Skills: best for motion
Emil Kowalski Design Skills break design-engineering problems into focused skills for animation creation, animation review, motion opportunities, Apple Design principles, and UI library selection.
Use them for specific questions such as which curve and duration an entering surface should use, where motion adds value, or whether a library should be used instead of a hand-built component.
Recommended skill stacks
For a new project:
- Use Frontend Design to establish direction.
- Record approved decisions in tokens or
DESIGN.md. - Implement within the existing stack.
- Use Impeccable Audit for responsive and accessibility checks.
- Use a focused Emil skill for critical interactions.
For an existing project:
- Use Impeccable Critique to identify high-priority problems.
- Use Taste Skill only if the root issue is a generic overall direction.
- Modify one bounded area at a time.
- Verify in the browser and run project tests.
Do not ask five skills to redesign the same page simultaneously. Their guidance can conflict. Give each stage one owner and preserve the decisions made in the previous stage.
How to evaluate a Claude design skill
Before installation, review the source, license, scripts, hooks, maintenance history, and scope. After installation, run an A/B test on the same component. Compare content specificity, system consistency, accessibility, maintainability, and whether the changes can be explained.
The best result is not merely the most dramatic screenshot. It is the interface that serves the product, preserves behavior, and remains coherent across states and screen sizes.
Conclusion
The best Claude design skill depends on the stage of the work. Frontend Design creates direction. Impeccable reviews and polishes. Taste Skill counters generic defaults. UI UX Pro Max supplies broad structured knowledge. Emil Kowalski Skills refine motion and design engineering.
