Frontend Design vs Impeccable: Which Design Skill Should You Use?

Compare Frontend Design and Impeccable by purpose, workflow, project stage, and use case to choose the right AI design skill.

Frontend Design and Impeccable both improve AI-generated interfaces, but they belong at different stages of the workflow. Frontend Design acts more like a creative director: it establishes the subject, visual language, and distinctive expression before implementation. Impeccable acts more like a design-review and refinement system: it critiques, audits, hardens, and polishes an interface that already exists.

The shortest decision rule is: choose Frontend Design to define a new direction; choose Impeccable to systematically improve an existing interface.

How Frontend Design works

Anthropic’s Frontend Design Skill asks an agent to build a visual plan from the actual subject and audience. The hero should express a thesis, typography should carry personality, structural devices should encode real information, and motion should serve the experience.

Its defining step is the critique before code. If the proposed colors, typography, and layout could be reused for any similar product, the agent is expected to revise them before implementation. This makes the skill particularly useful for brand sites, portfolios, campaign pages, and marketing interfaces.

How Impeccable works

Impeccable begins by recording product and design context, then provides focused operations. critique reviews hierarchy and clarity. audit checks accessibility, performance, and responsive quality. polish aligns the result with the design system before release.

This is useful for settings pages, dashboards, checkout flows, editorial products, and other existing interfaces where behavior must remain stable while quality improves.

Choose with three scenarios

Scenario 1: a new music-festival landing page

Choose Frontend Design. The lineup, venue, audience, and ticketing objective can directly shape type, color, rhythm, and composition. After implementation, run an Impeccable audit before release.

Scenario 2: a confusing SaaS settings page

Choose Impeccable. Preserve form behavior and the component system. Critique the information grouping, use layout and typesetting passes, then harden the page for long content, errors, and internationalization.

Scenario 3: a complete redesign of an old website

Start with an Impeccable critique to identify which behavior, content, and brand assets should survive. Use Frontend Design to establish the new direction. Return to Impeccable for the final audit. Reviewing before reinventing reduces the chance of discarding valuable product knowledge.

Can you use both?

Yes, but sequence them instead of letting them compete:

Product brief
  -> Frontend Design: establish direction
  -> Implementation
  -> Impeccable Critique: UX and hierarchy
  -> Impeccable Audit: technical quality
  -> Impeccable Polish: release refinement

Record approved decisions in tokens or DESIGN.md so the later review stage does not replace the direction without evidence.

Other factors

In a mature design system, both skills must treat existing tokens and components as constraints. If the main problem is repeated AI patterns rather than the absence of review commands, compare Taste Skill. If you need broad industry and stack-specific design knowledge, see UI UX Pro Max.

Conclusion

Frontend Design answers, “What should this page become?” Impeccable asks, “Has it been designed and delivered well?” The first is strongest for intentional creation, the second for controlled critique and refinement. New pages usually begin with Frontend Design; mature products often begin with Impeccable; complex projects can use both in sequence.
